\r\nMany different embroidery techniques have been used since ancient times. In Japan, dozens of types of thread of varying thickness and spinning method are used in embroidery, such as single yarn thread, twisted yarn thread, gold thread, silver thread, or urushi<\/em> lacquer thread (thread wrapped in paper covered with urushi<\/em> lacquer). The most suitable thread color for each design is selected from among a nearly infinite variety. \r\nGold painting is a technique that involves applying gold or silver leaf or metal powder to the fabric. The color of gold leaf can be given a red or blue hue by adding silver or copper to the alloy. Moreover, leaves of different colors can be made by adding color to a base silver leaf. These techniques and materials are applied according to the dyeing color of the fabric and the design concept of the kimono. \r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n
